Mr. Winston Callwood was admitted to Water’s Edge on January 30, 2024. He was discharged from Saint Charles Hospital. After a motor vehicle accident, Mr. Callwood was first brought to Saint Catherine’s. The accident caused fractures to his right arm and his right clavicle, and he was unable to walk or put pressure on his legs. After the car accident, he was then transferred to Saint Charles Acute Rehab Hospital in Port Jefferson from January 11th to January 30th. Mr. Callwood was then transferred to Waters Edge Rehabilitation on January 30th.
Upon admission, the patient met with the RN Supervisor. The RN supervisor examined, evaluated, and provided the patient with an understanding of the rehabilitation process. Mr. Callwood shared his goals of returning home within three months to his prior levels of function, improving his ability, and achieving maximum range of motion in his upper and lower extremities. This meant that we would have a lot of work to do in the short time we had.
Mr. Callwood was focused on accomplishing whatever it took to return home. Mr. Callwood participated in physical therapy and occupational therapy five days a week. The goal for the rehab team was to return him to his normal activities of daily living.
Mr. Callwood was discharged home on March 25, 2024. His stay was just three months, and he walked out of Waters Edge alone. When he came into Waters Edge he could not ambulate alone for any distance. Showering and dressing or going to the bathroom was a two-person assist. Upon his discharge, after doing physical and occupational therapy, Mr. Callwood could perform these activities independently with some restrictions. The Waters Edge Team felt pride in the tremendous strides this patient made. Mr Callwood was very happy that he was able to return home and able to perform day-to-day activities. We are so pleased for all he has accomplished and wish him health, happiness, and good luck.
